Grooving is a two-person exhibition of women artists at Taipei Art Week, featuring Chantal Fok and Chen Yi-Chun. Built around twelve works, it spans ink painting, generative imagery, theatrical narrative, the female body, and spiritual ways of seeing — a curatorial experiment in rhythm, resonance, and bodily sense. Chantal Fok’s ink painting refuses the old paths of landscape or religious art. Trained in thangka, she forges inner landscape and contemplative experience into tranquil scenes — yet hides within them elements of contemporary life that feel out of place, asking how body and mind might settle in a present too turbulent to predict. Chen Yi-Chun works from generative imagery, the female body, travel, theatre, and myth, pushing the anxiety of gazing and being exposed in the technological age straight into painted characters and scenes. Her Hell Circus series moves between splendor and absurdity — ironic, and probing how memory, performance, and self-image are born, mutate, and feed on one another. The two artists differ in background, subject, medium, and style, and that difference is the exhibition’s core tension — yet both touch female consciousness and the trouble of this era: noise and interruption keep piling up, dulling the senses, leaving creation and appreciation alike adrift and impatient. Grooving is built on three commitments: never let curatorial argument upstage the work; let insiders and audiences alike enter on equal footing and groove in their own way; let form, medium, and style resonate without losing their individual key — this is Grooving’s discipline, and its resolve. The contemporary art scene in Asia has never been a single narrative — it is a landscape of many voices, where race, region, society, culture, gender, and generation cross and collide. We choose neither domineering confrontation nor complacent, paper-over-the-cracks harmony; we choose only to organize difference through listening, to mediate encounters through rhythm, and to let resonance spread into a larger artistic ecology. This two-person exhibition is a small step toward that ideal — offered humbly, in the hope of drawing out finer encounters still to come.
