Roots of the Heart – 2026 Yu Wen LIU Solo Exhibition 【Artist Biography】 Yu Wen LIU graduated from the Department of Arts and Design at National Tsing Hua University. Her works have been selected for the Taiwan Fine Arts New Look Exhibition and the National Exhibition (Ink Painting category), and she has received the Award of Merit at the Yushan Art Exhibition. Grounded in traditional ink art, LIU integrates elements of fine-brush heavy-color painting and mineral pigments (Nihonga) with Western stippling techniques. She breaks away from conventions to create unique images that resonate deeply with contemporary life. 【Exhibition Concept】 "Roots of the Heart" represents both a spiritual sanctuary constructed by the artist and a reflection of her experience as a teacher at Jiaxing Elementary School in Jianshi Township, Hsinchu. Rooted in the mountain forests, LIU draws inspiration from the natural scenery surrounding the school and the vegetable gardens cultivated by her students, transforming everyday crops into a grand symphony of life. Technically, LIU skillfully combines traditional ink lines with the warm, rich, and textured qualities of sui-boku (water-fixed) pigments. Breaking through the structural boundaries of traditional landscapes, she employs modern, multi-perspective compositions. This approach allows colors and lines to breathe freely, preserving the Eastern philosophy of empty space while imbuing the canvas with contemporary layers and decorative beauty. This exhibition invites viewers into a poetic, warm sanctuary where art, education, and the earth beautifully intertwine.
