Since its establishment in 1997, the Fubon Art Foundation has given attention to outstanding works by important artists of the 20th century, from the Chinese cultural sphere as well as across the globe. With the establishment of the Fubon Art Museum in 2024, founder couple Chairman Richard M. Tsai and Museum Director Maggie Tsai have dedicated a space in the museum exclusively for the exhibition of works in the Fubon Collection. Selected groups of works from the collection will be displayed on rotation to the public.
Fubon’s abundant collection includes works by the eminent Sanyu (1895-1966) and artists from the Chinese cultural sphere in the early 20th century. In their synthesis of Eastern and Western cultures, their paintings demonstrate a unique spiritual yearning and perseverance that transcend societal norms.
Sanyu captures nature’s stillness in simple yet penetrating brushstrokes. He explores the intrinsic power of form and color. Through poetic evocations of diverse histories and aesthetics, his works surpass cultural barriers. He attempts to immerse viewers in the pure aesthetic power of his artworks, compelling us to search our soul and consider what gives our life meaning.
