Nunu Fine Art is pleased to present Mia Westerlund Roosen (b. 1942), a towering figure in postwar Western contemporary art, in her first solo exhibition in Taiwan, Material Matters: Process and Interplay since the 1970s, opening on October 17, 2026, at Taipei Nunu Fine Art.
When Roosen began her artistic practice in the 1970s, the art world was largely shaped by Minimalism, established by influential figures such as Donald Judd and Robert Morris. Yet Roosen resisted reducing sculpture to impersonal, industrial objects. Instead, she transformed heavy metals and concrete into sculptural forms marked by skin folds and the textures of the
human body, reasserting a connection between art and the corporeal.
The exhibition at Nunu Fine Art focuses primarily on works from the late 1970s to the early 1980s, bringing together concrete and lead sculptures imbued with an inner vitality, alongside works on paper distinguished by their profound material presence and tension.
