Continuance A Collection Exhibition by Taiwanese Collectors
An artwork does not end when it leaves the artist's studio. Its life continues through collecting, exhibiting, lending, and viewing, encountering new audiences and accumulating new meanings over time.
Continuance begins with the idea of collecting as an act of care. Political theorist Joan Tronto describes care as the practice of maintaining and sustaining our shared world. Seen from this perspective, collecting is more than ownership—it is a commitment to preserving the conditions that allow artworks to be seen, interpreted, and experienced across generations.
Presented during Taipei Art Week, the exhibition brings together works from the collections of Taiwanese collectors, returning artworks from private spaces to public view. In doing so, it reflects the philosophy of YuShi Clinic, where preventive and integrative medicine emphasizes continuous care rather than treatment alone.
Rather than asking what it means to own an artwork, Continuance invites us to consider a different question: what does it mean to care for one? Perhaps the value of collecting lies not in possession, but in ensuring that artworks continue to encounter the world.
