Event Introduction Light in the Depths: The Sea Generating in the City Light in the Depths: The Sea Generating in the City is a nighttime art project by Jun T. Lai, presented at SOCA Taipei during Taipei Art Week 2026. Extending Light in the Depths: The Flying Sea at ART TAIPEI, the project transforms flying fish, crystals, mirrored surfaces, light, sound, and moving images into an immersive urban field. Rather than depicting the ocean as a landscape, the project explores how light gathers within matter, life, and space, gradually becoming a force that crosses boundaries. The flying fish, moving between sea and sky, symbolize “free generation” and the possibility of entering a new state of becoming. At SOCA Taipei, mirrored surfaces reflect the city, the artworks, and the bodies of visitors. Light, sound, movement, and the glass storefront allow the exhibition space and urban environment to merge. Visitors are not merely observers; their presence and movement become part of the work’s continuous transformation. The project will take place from October 24 to November 7, 2026, through advance reservations and selected evening openings. A major SOCA Night and VIP Reception will bring together artists, curators, collectors, cultural professionals, and the public. Through this transition from ART TAIPEI to SOCA Taipei, the sea moves beyond the art fair booth and enters the city at night, becoming a living field of light, life, freedom, and encounter.
