HIGHLIGHT|CURATOR’S PICK
Jaume Plensa builds its body from perforated letters in eight languages, so you can walk straight into its torso. Standing inside, text-shaped light and shadow fall across your skin, and you stop being a spectator: you become the letter that completes this figure.
Artwork Description|
This site-specific sculpture was specially created for Fubon Art Museum by renowned Spanish artist Jaume Plensa. Entitled The House of Light and Love, the openwork human figure stands over eight meters tall and is made of white-painted stainless steel. Incorporating eight different scripts and alphabets from Eastern and Western cultures, the work symbolizes the systems of thought through which human civilization has been constructed. Its permeable form allows the surrounding natural environment to become part of the sculpture itself. At night, under illumination, the sculpture’s physical presence intertwines with light and shadow, transforming it into a luminous, almost light-sculptural work of art. More than a gift to the city, the sculpture also conveys a message of environmental sustainability and a blessing for global harmony and unity.
