Walking through the corner plaza on the east side of Guangci Social Housing, one encounters artist Ram Katzir’s work《TRACING FUTURE》. The artist employs a large-scale ground painting, using a sketch-like technique to depict one hand drawing another, with detailed palm lines. Through the motif of the palm prints, the work serves as a metaphor and symbol for “fate” and “the future,” suggesting human agency and the active ability to shape one’s own life. It conveys the idea that the “future” is something we ourselves can draw and design.
The artwork links the history and future of Guangci Social Housing, establishing a central green axis for the community. It stretches from the northeast corner of Building C toward the intersection of Buildings D, E, and B. The piece can be appreciated from the heights of the four buildings or approached at ground level along the shaded pedestrian paths, welcoming visitors into a space where art and everyday life merge. Simultaneously, it underscores the core significance of social housing as a public infrastructure policy—unlocking possibilities to transform lives and living conditions.
Through the public art at Guangci Social Housing, a sincere and passionate hope for life is expressed, sharing social and cultural values with the surrounding community. This may inspire innovative opportunities for reshaping future life and living. Through Katzir’s work, residents are encouraged to imagine and pursue their own “future,” sparking new directions and actions, and embarking on a personal journey in which everyone has the chance to write their own future.
