This work is a re-creation of the original The Arrival of the Phoenix, which was first created for Expo '70 in Osaka. In 1991, it was remade at the commission of the Taipei City Bank. The reborn phoenix maintains the original posture, but is newly constructed with stainless steel sheets and an internal framework, giving form to the phoenix’s graceful elegance as it leisurely spreads its wings and soars freely. Standing approximately 12 meters tall, it is an even more refined version of the original 7-meter steel phoenix from the World Expo. Continuing the theme of joyful welcome, the work symbolizes a generous spirit of sharing cultural heritage with the public. It aspires to reflect a vision of social harmony, blending the expansion of grassroots economic growth and the perpetual flow of financial resources, thereby supporting social stability and ultimately achieving the ideal of an abundant and equitable society. The mirrored stainless steel surface reflects its surroundings — people and events alike. However, due to its placement in front of the Taipei Bank Headquarters on Zhongshan North Road, where the environment is overly congested, the phoenix unfortunately finds itself in an awkward state — unable to take flight.
