《NEST OF LIGHT》 is a series of four high-temperature ceramic sculptures created by artist YUNG-HSU HSU. Resembling canyon trails, the works echo the surrounding protected old trees and street trees. Their simple, understated forms establish a gentle and enveloping spatial atmosphere.
Clay, one of humanity’s earliest sculpting materials, nurtures all living things and symbolizes the origins and power of life. It is also the artist’s primary medium.《NEST OF LIGHT》 responds to this special connection and significance, using art to highlight Taipei’s rich urban and cultural context.
Continuing his artistic approach,YUNG-HSU HSU preserves the natural texture and color of clay while maintaining a high level of personal engagement in the creation process. Without using any tools, he repeatedly stacks, presses, and shapes the clay by hand. Through instinctive, physical actions, he channels his full energy and life experience into the work. Each touch seals time within the sculpture, resulting in unique textures and perforations. The forms are fluid and lightweight, presented in their purest and most refined state, radiating a powerful presence and emotional impact.
The sculptures’ forms echo layered soil and mountain landscapes, with organic shapes and lines that create a rhythmic flow and dynamic movement. They interact and respond to one another, producing a multi-layered, tension-filled spatial experience. The unique textures and perforations create a sense of transparency, allowing viewers to move through and pause within the sculptures. The works offer not only a visually complex and poetic aesthetic experience but also an opportunity for physical engagement. Viewers can explore, observe, and discover, forming a connection between the surrounding environment, themselves, and the sculptures, creating a unique and intimate sensory experience.
At night, soft light filters through the dense perforations, generating a warm, welcoming atmosphere—like a small lantern guiding and protecting those returning home.
