《LIVING ROOM IN THE LANDSCAPE》 is a work by artist SHENG-FENG LIN, situated in the open space of the Park on the north side of the Guangci Social Housing. The piece takes the form of a public pavilion, woven from modular structural steel and straightforward construction materials. Its exposed, textured steel bars interact with shifting light and shadow through day and night, across changing seasons, creating a flowing landscape reminiscent of abstract mountains and rivers.
The work’s sensuous, fluid form stands in contrast to the rational order of its steel structure. After conducting detailed site research, SHENG-FENG LIN was moved by the organic and highly fluid transformations of Guangci’s landscape and cultural environment over time. Responding with an open and organic artistic form, he invites viewers to freely wander through the contours of the piece, projecting their own life experiences onto it. Within this site, the installation generates new relational ethics between people, events, and the environment — becoming a symbol of meaning that carries imagination and interpretation.
The title《LIVING ROOM IN THE LANDSCAPE》is aptly chosen. It represents the interconnected and intertwined feelings between people, between humans and nature, and between the past and the future. The work may evoke the ponds and waterways of Xikou; the forests of the Four Beasts under sun or rain; or the dark underground coal mine tunnels and black waters flowing in the rain. It could also bring to mind distant memories or an imagined home. This piece serves as a sincere invitation, welcoming everyone to enter, experience, and imagine.
