The location for hanging a chandelier is often a public gathering space, and chandeliers themselves symbolize luxury, elegance, and refined taste. Crystal Cloud can be seen as an installation artwork inspired by the modern crystal chandelier. The piece is composed of 355 identical metal triangular panels stacked and arranged in a way that evokes the imagery of a dragon gliding through clouds and a phoenix spreading its wings, presenting a striking sense of dynamic beauty. Architects Dwayne Oyler and Jenny Wu employed computational architectural design to organize these identical triangles, allowing the work to illuminate the entire space like a traditional chandelier, while the variations in height and layering make the walkway and surrounding space feel more intimate and engaging. This artwork features undulating forms with surfaces that emit light through the interaction of materials, extending throughout the walkway. Like a conventional chandelier, it provides ambient light for the space. Whether designed as a solid or perforated structure, additional design enhancements allow the light to pass through and illuminate the floor. The use of highly reflective materials further enhances the brightness of the chandelier.
