A graduate of Tokyo University of the Arts, OZU Wataru draws profound inspiration from traditional Japanese painting, including Yamato-e, Rinpa, and Ukiyo-e. He skillfully incorporates the Eastern aesthetic concept of ma—the beauty of space and interval—to guide the viewer’s gaze, allowing rhythm and breath to emerge within stillness. Like musical interludes, his paintings open subtle apertures in time, inviting quiet reflection in the space between movement and pause.
This exhibition highlights the artist’s luminous still lifes, landscapes, and portraits, rendered in translucent colors and delicate brushwork, revealing a unique visual language that bridges Eastern sensibility and Western painting traditions.
