"If the Universe Feels " — CHIU Chien-Jen Solo Exhibition
The exhibition title is drawn from the line “If heaven had emotions, it too would grow old” by Tang Dynasty poet Li He. It suggests that if the heavens possessed feelings, they too would age from sorrow. This metaphor reflects the artist’s belief that if daily imagery carries emotion, painting becomes a means to preserve and extend shared emotional experiences through visual representation.
In this exhibition, artist Chiu Chien-Jen presents a departure from his past work by exploring a monochromatic painting approach. As a modern-day flâneur wandering through the digital cityscape, Chiu captures the most solitary forms of noise within his memories of daily life. Observing the world in silence, he reconstructs mental imagery through painterly expression to convey the impermanence of the world and the brevity of life.
