Taiwanese wood sculptor Han Hsu-Tung began developing his "pixelated wood sculpture" series 15 years ago. He experimented with different material called "Glulam," and then arranged the wooden blocks, either in regular or irregular patterns, within the interwoven positive and negative spaces. Through this geometric block combination, he creates a sense of digital aesthetics.
In 2019, he stumbled upon books related to electric motors, this piqued his interest, and led him to study programming languages online. Eventually, he succeeded in transforming his sculptures from static to dynamic, allowing him to break through the creative limitations artists often face, embodying the new and evolving nature of art.
During Taipei Art Week 2025, East Gallery will exhibit several artworks of Taiwanese wood sculptor Han Hsu-Tung, these artworks have a time span of 35 years from 1990s to 2020s. This exhibition offers a glimpse of artist's transition from traditional "social realism" to contemporary "pixelated wood sculpture". Art enthusiasts are welcome to visit our gallery here in Taipei!
