Cans Space presents Must Kindness Be Divided?, featuring Thai artist Gongkan and his distinctive practice. Gongkan graduated in 2007 from Kasetsart University Experimental College and received his master’s degree in 2011 from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Silpakorn University. After graduating, he spent three years in the creative department of an advertising agency in New York, creating street art and illustrations in his spare time. Working under the banner of “Teleport Art,” he uses a concept of traversing time and space to present features of his hometown, gaining recognition in New York’s street art scene.
Gongkan’s paintings fuse surrealism with elements of time. Using flattened, graphic brushwork to depict human figures, the works range from interactive scenes to solitary postures. While soft tones and fluid forms convey calm, the recurring black shapes often disrupt this serenity, intensifying the visual tension.
