    Since 1967, Whitestone Gallery has stood as a trailblazer in the art world situated in Ginza, Tokyo’s bustling hub. Committed to fostering dialogue between art and local communities, we expanded our reach by establishing the Karuizawa New Art Museum in 2012, a rare private art institution in Japan. This endeavor was followed by the opening of galleries in Taipei (2017), Hong Kong's HK H Queen's (2018), Beijing (2023), Seoul (2023), and Singapore (2023).

    Whitestone Gallery Taipei proudly presents a solo exhibition by Japanese artist Ay-O, titled Ay-O: Dancing Rainbow. The exhibition features nearly 50 works, including acrylic originals and prints from various stages of Ay-O's career since the late 1950s. The exhibition will open on Saturday, October 26, and run until Saturday, December 7. An opening reception will be held on October 26 at 4 PM. Ay-O's artistic career spans more than 60 years, making him a significant figure in postwar Japanese and international art. He is renowned for his vibrant, colorful works and his art's ability to engage multiple senses.

    Ay-O, born Takao Iijima in 1931 in Ibaraki, Japan, moved to New York in 1958 and joined the avant-garde art movement Fluxus, becoming one of its key members. Ay-O is best known for his "Rainbow" series, where he rejected traditional line drawing in favor of a focus on the use of color. He created compositions that spanned the entire visible spectrum, incorporating gradients from red to violet, continuously exploring the possibilities of color and providing viewers with a more diverse sensory experience through visual perception. Navigating between painting, installation, printmaking, and happening art, Ay-O's creative work, sometimes humorous and at times critical, launched a sensory adventure that pushed beyond the limits of perception, earning him an important place in the international art scene.
