The Taiwan Art History Association, in collaboration with Huafan University, is hosting an academic seminar titled "2024 Academic Symposium on the Situation of Calligraphy and Painting in the Era of Science and Technology" on October 26 (Saturday) and October 27 (Sunday), 2024. The event will take place at the International Conference Hall of the National Taiwan Normal University Library (129 Heping East Road, Section 1, Da’an District, Taipei City).
The technological age influences contemporary cultural thinking, and the integration of art with new technological trends is shaping contemporary artistic creation. This integration allows new media art to create multi-dimensional experiences. These technologies bring a fundamental change to visual culture, which inevitably affects calligraphy and painting as well, altering their place within the broader visual arts environment. Technology expands the possibilities and expressiveness of calligraphy and painting while challenging traditional definitions and boundaries of art, prompting both artists and viewers to rethink the meaning and value of art. Thus, how is calligraphy and painting transforming in the face of technology? Or how are these art forms confronting technological challenges? These and other related issues await further scholarly investigation and discussion.
