The National Palace Museum was founded in 1925 in the Forbidden City in Beijing and later established at its current location in Waishuangxi, Taipei, in 1965. This year marks its centennial celebration.
The museum building features traditional Chinese palace-style architecture. The first to third floors serve as exhibition galleries, while the fourth floor houses the Sanxitang Teahouse, a space for visitors to rest and enjoy refreshments.
The museum holds the world’s largest and important collection of Chinese art treasures, with nearly 700,000 pieces. These artifacts mainly originate from the Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, representing almost 5,000 years of Chinese history. Because of this vast and rich collection, the National Palace Museum is often praised as a “treasure house of Chinese culture.”
